The Creek Is Still Warm, And I Have A Few Spots Left Before Summer Lets Go
There is a very specific kind of light that only shows up at the creek in late summer, gold and low and catching the water just right, and every year I tell myself I am going to slow down and notice it while it is happening instead of realizing later that it is already gone, and every year I mostly fail at that, so this year I am trying to notice it on purpose, and I want to catch a few more families in it before it goes.
If you have not done a creek session with me before, here is what it actually looks like. No posed lineups, no everybody look here and smile, just kids being exactly as barefoot and muddy and loud as they actually are, because that is the whole point, that is what I am there to catch. Some of my favorite images from every summer are the ones nobody planned, a kid mid jump into the water, another one crouched down inspecting a rock like it holds the secrets of the universe, someone’s sibling laughing so hard at something that will never be explainable later.
For my neurodivergent families especially, and honestly this is most of my people, the creek does something a studio never could. There is no forced stillness, no bright lights, no expectation to perform a smile on command, just space and water and rocks and room to move, and a kid who is regulating by wading and climbing instead of sitting stiff on a stool being told to hold it. I already get it, because I have watched my own kid need exactly that kind of room, the freedom to move his body while something hard or good is happening, sometimes both at once.
I still remember the first time my son smiled, really smiled, just a small movement of his lips and this look in his eyes, and I did not know then how many more small movements we would be waiting on, but that one taught me to watch closer for the moments that do not announce themselves.
That is what I am chasing every single time I am out at the creek with a family, not the announced moment, the quiet one underneath it. The way a sibling reaches out without being asked to. The way a kid who has had a hard week finally exhales the second his feet hit the water. Those are the ones I am there for.
Summer is doing that thing where it is not over yet but you can feel it packing its bags, and I only have a handful of these golden evenings left before we close this part of the season out for good. If you have been meaning to get your family down to the water before school starts back up, this is genuinely your window, not a countdown to create pressure, just the truth of how few good light evenings are actually left.
You can see current pricing here, and grab a time that works for your family here. If you are not sure yet whether this is the right fit for your kid, that is exactly what the contact page is for, no pressure, just a real conversation first.
Wherever your family is right now, hard season or easy one or somewhere tangled in between, I would love to catch a little bit of it at the water before it slips into fall.
